What WritFund does
Canadian election campaigns and parties need to accept political contributions and stay within contribution limits that differ at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. WritFund is being built to do that in one place. A campaign or party sets up an account. A donor gives through a page WritFund hosts for that campaign. WritFund checks the amount against the limits and eligibility rules for that election, takes the payment through a payment processor, and issues the receipt the campaign needs.
WritFund does not accept donations yet. It is in development, and this page describes what it is being built to do.
The email WritFund sends
Every email WritFund sends is a direct result of something the recipient did, or of an account they hold. That means:
- a contribution receipt, sent to the donor who gave;
- a notice that a payment did not go through;
- a statement for a campaign’s financial officials;
- an invitation to join a campaign’s team, and a reminder to finish setting up an account;
- notices to campaign staff about compliance deadlines and filing obligations;
- messages about a support request the recipient opened.
WritFund does not send marketing or promotional email. It does not buy, rent, import, or scrape mailing lists, and it does not sell donor information or give it to advertisers. A campaign sees the information about its own donors that election law requires it to record and report. How personal information is handled is explained on the privacy page.
